When John Reiner was at Penn State, he says, Lambda Chi Alpha was known for throwing “great parties” and for having a great time afterward: “After a party was over, we would frequently get loud and would sometimes wake up our house mother, Mother G, who would then read us the riot act. That usually ended any after-hours horse play.”
But the partying wasn’t the best aspect of John’s college experience, since he also met his future wife while at school. “I began dating my wife, Bernie, after freshman year. She went to college in Philadelphia and would frequently come up for weekends. We got pinned in my junior year and were married the year after graduation. We have four great children and nine grandchildren who I adore.”
He says that living far apart from other brothers has made it challenging to see them in person, but he has been happy to stay in contact via email and social media. “I keep up with many of my fellow Lambda Chi mates via emails. (In particular) Bob Tussey ‘65 and Bob Woelfling ‘65 were both also dorm mates. We became instant friends. Stayed in touch after graduation, both were ushers in my wedding. Sadly, Bob Woelfling passed away recently (in February 2023). He will be sadly missed, a truly great guy.”
John majored in Psychology, and after graduation began a career in personnel before shifting into general management, primarily at American Express.
