Edward “Eddie” Virbitsky passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, on March 14, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

He was the beloved husband of Bridget (Borowski); and devoted father to Ella, Zack and Ava. Ed was the 11th of thirteen children, son of Michael and Genevieve “Jean” (Pesarchik) Virbitsky. He was raised in Mayfield, PA near Scranton and graduated from Lakeland High School in 1983. During that time he excelled in football, basketball and track and field. He graduated from Penn State University in 1987 with a Bachelor’s degree in Health Administration.

Ed began his professional career in Environmental Services with ServiceMaster. He relocated to both Harrisburg and Erie. He ultimately settled in Pittsburgh in 1994 as Director of Environmental Services at West Penn Hospital. He stayed there for close to 20 years. In 2013, he transitioned to Director of EVS at St. Clair Hospital. In 2020, Ed began his career with Crothall Healthcare Inc. as EVS Training Director. He proudly shared his passion and extensive experience of EVS with newly hired staff for all hospitals within the Allegheny Health Network.

Ed was an avid Penn State Football fan and never missed a game. He loved golfing and as with everything else, he did it well. He eagerly anticipated high school baseball season and looked forward to watching Hampton play.

Ed’s true heart and soul was steadfast with his family, both in Scranton and Pittsburgh. He met Bridget in Pittsburgh in 1997 and soon after they never parted. They were married in 2002 and raised three children in Hampton Township, PA, where they resided for 23 years. He was a handyman extraordinaire, he could and would-do anything for anyone. Ed could be found in his yard, garage or home with the kids. He never missed an opportunity to support their activities and interests.

Ed was exceptionally kind and caring. He had the ability to connect with anyone he met from any walk of life. He was beyond patient, a great listener and generous with his time and energy. He had a silly, yet sharp sense of humor. Eddie will be cherished and missed endlessly by those who knew him.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Genevieve (Jean) Virbitsky; his brother, Michael Virbitsky; his sister, Anne Marie Thomas; and his brother, William Virbitsky. He is survived by his wife, Bridget (Borowski); his daughters, Ella and Ava; and his son, Zack.
