A Life Driven by LXA

A Unique College Career Defined by Time as a Lambda Chi
Bob Lightner ’75 had a unique college journey. Beginning freshman year in 1965, he took classes for two years before trading in his textbooks for a job at Bethlehem Steel. After a year and a half in the real world, Lightner bounced back and forth between semesters at Penn State and working at Bethlehem Steel, before graduating in June of 1975. But among this back and forth one thing remained constant — Lightner’s love for Lambda Chi Alpha.

Greek Life Reforms Yield Positive Impacts

New measures put in place to curb dangerous activities in Greek life at Penn State have, in part, led to a calmer and quieter existence in the Highlands neighborhood, where most fraternity houses are located.
“Penn State’s recent reforms with respect to Greek life have helped improve the quality of life in our neighborhoods in an immense and meaningful way,” Mayor Don Hahn said in a statement. “I am appreciative of the Penn State administration, especially President Eric Barron and Vice President for Student Affairs Damon Sims, for seeing the need to and following through on the commitment to change the Greek system for the better. I look forward to continuing to work with Penn State, its fraternities, its students and alumni, and our community members to continue to make positive strides forward for both Penn State and State College.”

Lambda Chi Legacy “Fate” for Wayne “Luke” Taiclet
Choosing a fraternity to join can be a difficult decision for some men, but for Wayne L. “Luke” Taiclet, choosing Lambda Chi Alpha seemed almost fated. Taiclet’s two older brothers were already in Lambda Chi Alpha, so he was already familiar with the fraternity and knew some of the brothers. His nephew later joined as well, deepening the legacy.
“It was not really a choice as much as a destiny,” Taiclet said about his decision.
