Lambda Chi Stands Strong!

In a time of social distancing and quarantines, Lambda Chi Brothers remain true to our values…

It only takes one look at the most recent headlines to realize that we’re all facing uncertain times. Not only are there health threats on our doorsteps, especially for our older Alumni, but we face the threat of economic peril as well, even after the threat of a pandemic is appropriately handled.

However, in the face of all this uncertainty and in spite of Penn State shut downs and cancelled undergrad and Alumni events that we all look forward to each year, one thing remains true. Lambda Chi stands strong and united. We may be separated by miles and quarantines, but we are forever connected in spirit.

Brothers,

Due to recent vacancies, there are two current openings on the Lambda Chi Alpha Alumni Board that need to be filled.  This document provides a link at the bottom of the page to collect nominations for the offices of 1st Vice-President and 2nd Vice-President.  There is going to be a special election for these two positions, voting to take place at the Spring Alumni Board Meeting at the chapter house in State College on 4/11/2020.

The House at 100

This month, I’d like to provide you with operating data from the Alumni Corp.

Back in 1994, a mortgage for $398,000 was taken out for a comprehensive property rehabilitation. So, it’s been 25 years since the House has seen overall major improvements. Ideally, funds should have been raised prior to the work, as the debt service on the loan drained annual cash flow.

This became a bigger problem as other structural needs (roof, bathrooms) reached the end of their expected lives. The roof is over 25 years old and the bathrooms date back to 1981! Michael Park’s list from the last Alumni Board meeting is provided in this month’s eLetter. Where we stand currently is: the 1994 mortgage is paid off! A number of larger projects need to be addressed over the next 5 years.

Alumni Updates

We recently sent out an email asking Brothers to provide some updates and news as to what is going on in their lives or just something they would like to share and we got a few responses. We would love to hear from ALL of you so please send your updates and pictures into [email protected] for publication in a future eLetter or the next edition of The Zeta Zephyr.

351 East Fairmont at 100

The current Chapter House will celebrate its 100th birthday in 2025.  To date, 1869 Brothers have passed through its doors. The House stands because of you. Whether its time or funds donated, its presence continues because of you. With that in mind, the House Corp would like you to consider pitching in to help complete […]

Bucking the Trend

As we head into the next decade, Fraternities across the country are facing unprecedented obstacles. Toxic environments and poor management have led many Fraternal Organizations to go out of business which, as a result, left a void in many places. They no longer educated young men with the ideals and teachings that have led many of us to become productive members of society. This may be true for many Chapters across the country but not Zeta Zeta. With healthy numbers and having recently paid off our $400,000 mortgage, we find ourselves in a select group of Fraternity Chapters across the country.

This was accomplished by the donations of many of you and from the help of many Brothers. Thanks to Brother Beard’s project management skills, Brothers Anderson and Milone with financial management, Brother Rossi with his constant undergraduate support and many other Brothers;  Gasbarre, Haas, Taiclet, Termini, Boring, Less, Miller, and Ferlino.  I wish I had space to name them all, but this is just a few of your Brothers that have helped the Zeta Chapter get to this place where we can all be proud.

There is Still Time to Make it to a Home Game!

If you haven’t had the chance to make the trip back to Happy Valley for a great Nittany Lion Football weekend with your Lambda Chi Brothers, you still have a couple opportunities left. There are still two home games remaining on the schedule; Penn State vs. Indiana 11/16 and Penn State vs. Rutgers on 11/30. It has been an amazing season so far and there has never been a better time to come back and experience that Happy Valley energy.

The November edition of State College Magazine just came out featuring the “Best of State College” available HERE. It includes a fantastic list of all of the new and classic attractions and restaurants around town that you can check out before and after the games.
