Alex Buckley ’18 has personally experienced fraternal bonds long before he ever joined a fraternity.
Since the age of 14, Alex has been serving as a volunteer firefighter with his hometown department. As a kid, he would run down to the fire station on his street every time he heard the sirens go off, just to watch the trucks in action. It was those moments that developed a spirit in Alex of wanting to join something larger than himself.
“Just like LXA, our fire department is a very fraternal organization and the bond I have with them is as strong as the bond as I have with my fellow Zetas,” he said.
Alex transferred to Penn State during his sophomore year, and joined LXA as a way to branch out and meet new people. He’s held positions of Exec Member at Large, High Rho, and Greek Sing Chairman, among others. In a short time, the fraternity has benefitted him in ways that he knows will have a positive impact on his life—including giving him the ability to navigate tough situations, to manage different types of personalities, and a lifelong commitment in brotherhood. And he recognizes the value in giving back to the organization that gave him so much: He already plans to serve on the Alumni Advisory Board after he graduates next fall.
“I am proud to be a member of Zeta Zeta because despite everything that was thrown at us in recent years, we made it through and are stronger than ever,” he said.
As he finishes up his undergraduate career as a Finance major, Alex has already secured an investment banking job at Deutsche Bank in New York City once he graduates. He looks forward to expanding his LXA network in his new city.
“I would like to connect with the chapter alumni this year in New York City to find an LXA community and keep the bond strong in my new life as an alumni brother,” he said.
